Young people have their say in new Children and Young People Plan

02 March 2022

Young people from Broxbourne feature in a new video launching the latest Children and Young People Plan.

Kathy, Matt and Nathan attend the Services for Young People Focus project for young people with learning disabilities in Waltham Cross and have worked with youth workers to help design and develop services for young people, as well as advise on how existing services can become more inclusive and accessible.

After working on the plan, they also provided their voices to an animation for its launch.

One of the young people said “I wasn’t aware of the activities I could attend locally. Now I know how to find out about them and join the sessions I’m interested in.” Another said It was interesting and fun.”

As Young Commissioners, they also designed questions for the appointment of key workers, reviewed and recommended changes to the personalised care plan and took part in a community navigation project aimed at increasing access and quality assurance for various providers of the 0-25 SEND local offer.

To find out more about the CYP strategy for young people, and to hear the voices of Kathy, Matt and Nathan, you can find the Plan for CYP video here.

The Services for Young People Focus project offers young people aged 13-24 the opportunity to participate in a range of workshops and activities including playing sports, cooking, music-making, socialising and crafts. Youth workers are experienced in working with young people with a variety of needs.

There are two groups, both meeting at Waltham Cross Young People’s Centre:

13-17s meet on Tuesdays, 7pm-9pm

18-24s meet on Wednesdays, 7.15pm-9.15pm
