Services for Young People (SfYP) has been awarded £1,025,830 in funding through the Youth Initiatives Fund. The grant aims to transform the SfYP Waltham Cross Young People’s Centre, a hub of activity in the local community.
SfYP Youth Workers worked with young people at the Focus Youth Project to gather their opinions about changes they would like to see at the centre. Their input will help to shape the refurbishment plans to ensure it continues to be a vibrant and inclusive space for all.
The Focus Youth Project runs twice a week at the Waltham Cross Young People’s Centre. It supports young people with mild to moderate learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities with relationships, confidence, emotional wellbeing and essential life skills.
Several exciting improvements have been identified that will enhance the opportunities and SfYP programmes on offer to young people. These include upgrades to the music studio, the development of the sensory and reflective space, and the installation of new gym equipment.
The young people involved appreciated the opportunity to have their voices heard and it has given them a sense of ownership and pride in the development process.
The SfYP Area Team Manager for East Herts, Broxbourne and Welwyn Hatfield said:
“We look forward to working with the young people as we implement their ideas in this exciting development.”
New members are welcome at the Focus Youth Project, which runs every Tuesday for young people aged 13 to 17 from 6.45pm to 8. 45pm. The session for young adults aged 18 to 25 runs every Wednesday from 7.15pm to 9.15pm.
