A badge designed by a young person is to be worn by Safeguarding Champions in Hertfordshire hospitals

22 June 2022

The Services for Young People Hospital Youth Work Team was asked by the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust to run a competition for young people to design a badge to be worn by the Safeguarding Champions in their hospitals. The winning design has now been chosen.

The Hospital Youth Work Team invited the young people they work with in hospitals and other community health settings to submit their designs by posting them on Instagram. Along with the Safeguarding Champions, they then voted on their favourite design. The winning design has now been made into badges for them to wear.

Safeguarding Champions are members of hospital staff who support children and young people to feel safe while they are in hospital. They are also responsible for sharing new information about safeguarding practices and supporting other members of staff in their area to respond to safeguarding concerns.

A paediatric nurse said:

“It's so lovely to have a badge which has been made by one of our young people; I will wear it with pride! It feels really special to know that our young people are involved in developing our services which help to keep them safe.”

Services for Young People hospital youth workers work closely with Hertfordshire NHS hospital trusts to support young people with issues that may be affecting their physical or mental health, both during their hospital stay and beyond. Follow this link to find out more:
